Closing Ceremony 1st Female Police Officers T3 Course organized by Italian Carabinieri

On the 3rd of December, the Ambassador of Italy in Baghdad, H.E. Bruno Antonio Pasquino, Col. Abbas Fadhil Mohamed, Senior Officer in the Training Directorate, Col. Jamal Husein Ali del Civil Defense and the Director of the Female Institute of Ministry of Interior of Iraq, Suuad Abdul Jabbar, joined to the closing ceremony for the “Course for Training Female Police Officers”, organized by Italian Carabinieri and Iraqi Minister of Interior, and delivered the diplomas to the 14 female Police officers. Iraqi Officers of the Prime
Minister Cabinet and of the Ministry of Interior also joined the closing ceremony.

The course, held by Italian Female Carabinieri working at the Police Task Force in Iraq with the cooperation of International Red Cross and European Union Advisory Mission, belongs to the bilateral cooperation programs aimed to increase professional capabilities and awareness that Iraqi female police officers can play in their society.

In the framework of these bilateral cooperation programs, based in the management of cases related to “vulnerable categories” with a special focus on international humanitarian law, violence issues, treatment of victims of criminal offences and gender equality principles, the Italian Carabinieri have held seven basic courses which have allowed the instruction of 120 Iraqi female police officers, while other courses will be provided during the next year.

Ambassador Pasquino has mentioned that gender issues are one the priorities for our country and has underlined the Italy’s commitment in organizing training courses for women, especially in police and security field, in order to increase knowledge on human rights and law enforcement, special referred to gender violence. Moreover, Ambassador has underlined the importance of the role
played by Italian Carabinieri in the peacekeeping activities abroad and in the instruction of foreign police officers.
