The Embassy of Italy in Iraq took part in the European–Iraqi Medical Conference held in Baghdad on 12 September 2025. The event was organized by the Al-Yasir Group and brought together Iraqi health authorities, medical and pharmaceutical associations, and representatives of the pharmaceutical industry with their European partners to strengthen cooperation in the health sector.
Italy was represented at the event by several pharmaceutical companies, including Pharmaxima, which showcased innovative therapeutic solutions, medical training support programs, and reliable supply chains for Iraqi hospitals and clinics. Products from the Italian companies BMG Pharma and Labamar Italy were also presented, in partnership with the CEO of the Al-Yasir Group Dr. Firas Al-maawi. These contributions reflect Italy’s longstanding tradition of scientific excellence and its commitment to improving healthcare in Iraq.
In his remarks, Ambassador Fontana emphasized Italy’s broader engagement in Iraq’s health sector, recalling the work of many Italian companies that are contributing to the development of the sector through specialized medical expertise and training activities, to ensure access to high-quality care for Iraqi patients. The Ambassador stressed that Italy’s commitment goes beyond commercial cooperation and includes knowledge transfer, capacity building, and solidarity.
Participation in this conference demonstrates Italy’s commitment to promoting long-term partnerships that improve patient care, expand training opportunities for Iraqi professionals, and strengthen the country’s healthcare system.
