Meeting with the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghizi

Ambassador Maurizio Greganti was received by the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghizi. The meeting focused on the main fields of cooperation between Italy and Iraq, with the aim of further strengthening the already excellent relations between the two countries.

Ambassador Greganti shared with the Secretary-General the desire to expand Italian-Iraqi collaboration in every sector, starting with the cultural and economic-commercial one. The Ambassador explained that strengthening the presence in Iraq of Italian companies is an objective of his mandate. Thanks to their skills and abilities, Italian companies are able to bring added value in the reconstruction of the Country and in developing the true potential of the Iraqi market.

Recalling how Italy has always been beside Iraq in the fight against Daesh, the Ambassador then retraced the many projects of the Italian Development Cooperation for the rehabilitation of territories liberated from ISIS, citing reconstructing and securing the Mosul dam as a prominent example.

The Secretary General thanked the Ambassador and recalled the millenary culture that links the two Countries and symbolic cities such as Rome and Ur. While discussing the modernization of the ancient capital of the Chaldeans, the Secretary General expressed his hope for a large presence of Italian companies, by virtue of their experience in the field of infrastructure, restoration and conservation.

The meeting ended with an exchange of views on the Iraqi political situation.
