The Ambassador of Italy to Iraq, Niccolò Fontana, attended the opening day of the Baghdad International Energy Forum (6–7 September 2025), convened under the patronage of the Prime Minister with broad regional and international participation, including OPEC leadership, senior energy officials and representatives of the major IOCs, including ENI.
Discussions focused on Iraq’s priorities to bolster energy security and attract investment: accelerating gas capture to reduce flaring and support power generation; upgrading refineries to increase the share of higher-value petroleum products; integrating renewables into the grid; and diversifying export routes and storage. Forum sessions also reviewed oil-market dynamics and longer-term outlooks within the OPEC+ framework.
The Embassy of Italy will continue engaging with Iraqi authorities and international partners to follow up on the Forum’s outcomes and contribute to sustainable, reliable, and diversified energy solutions for Iraq.
