The Embassy of Italy in Baghdad organized the first Iraqi tour of renowned flautist Andrea Griminelli, accompanied on piano by Amedeo Salvato. The tour included performances in Baghdad (December 11) and Erbil (December 13).
The Baghdad concert took place at the American University of Iraq – Baghdad (AUIB), attended by a large representation of the international diplomatic community, along with prominent figures from Iraq’s political, cultural, and business sectors. The event was graced by the presence of Mrs. Shanaz Ahmed, First Lady of the Republic of Iraq, who attended as the guest of honor. Among the distinguished guests was Cardinal Louis Raphaël I Sako, Patriarch of the Chaldean Church in Baghdad.
The concert program featured some classical and contemporary masterpieces, including iconic film scores by Nino Rota and Ennio Morricone. A particularly moving moment was the tribute to Franco Battiato, in remembrance of his historic performance at the National Theatre of Baghdad in December 1992.
This initiative marked a significant event for the cultural life of the capital and reaffirmed the role of music as a universal language, capable of connecting people and enriching cultural dialogue, thus strenghtening the bonds of friendship between Italy and Iraq.
