Ceremony of donation to the Iraq Authorities of a copy of Nassiriyah Memorial.  

The Italian Ambassador in Iraq, Massimo Marotti, donated today to the Republic of Iraq, in a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq, a copy of the Memorial to the Fallen in Nasiriyah that was produced and exhibited at the Italian Embassy in Baghdad to mark the tenth anniversary of the attack on 12 November, 2013.

In his speech, Ambassador Marotti recalled how the monument, made by a young Iraqi artist, Zeinab Sami, bears the engraved names of 19 fallen of Nasiriyah and 19 stars, and stressed that the donation of a copy of the memorial to the Republic of Iraq is the sign, as well as the friendships that Italy and Iraq, the profound respect for the countless Iraqi casualties in these years of conflict, and the proof of the will of Italy to remain at the side of Iraq.

At the ceremony participated the Deputy Foreign Minister, Nazar Al Khairallah, and the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq.

The Deputy Minister Khairallah had words of praise and deep appreciation for the initiative, as a tangible sign of the friendship between Italy and Iraq and the determination to keep alive the memory of all those, Italians and Iraqis, who have fought side side and sacrificed in the name of the values of freedom and security.
