Finance Minister Hoshyar Zebari announced the approval of the International Monetary Fund to provide emergency financial assistance within the government and Ministry of Finance’s plans to reduce public expenditure.

A statement for the Ministry of Finance said, “Zebari held several technical and detailed talks with the International Monetary Fund’s officials and the official of Iraq’s team in the fund to help Fund for Iraq under the current financial crisis, stressing that it was agreed on by the Fund to provide emergency financial assistance within the government and Ministry of Finance’s plans to reduce public expenditure”.

The Iraqi delegation also held talks with the Legal Department and the Department of Accounting at the IMF officials to stand on the use of the government and the Ministry of Finance for funds of SDR allocation in the 2015 budget.

The meeting was attended by Governor of the Central Bank, the Director General of the budget, general manager of public debt and general manager of the Iraqi Fund for External Development.
