Ambassador Maurizio Greganti was received this morning by the Iraqi Minister of Planning, dr. Khalid B. Al Najim, assisted by the Director General for Cooperation and International Relations, dr. Saher Mahdi. In addition to recalling the Italian commitment to stabilize the areas liberated from Daesh and to rebuild the country, in particular through the restoration of the Mosul dam, the meeting focused on the numerous projects financed by the Italian Government in Iraq, a priority country for Italian Cooperation, in sectors of fundamental importance for long-term Iraqi development, such as education, agriculture, water resources management, fight against gender-based violence. The opportunities for deepening bilateral collaboration in the field of culture were also explored, to exploit the potential of the Department of Italian Studies of the University of Baghdad, and tourism, with the aim of promoting the vast Iraqi archaeological heritage.
