The Ambassador of Italy in Iraq Maurizio Greganti took part in the virtual seminar “Italy-Iraq: from the NATO Mission Command to the stabilization challenges” organized by the IAI – Istituto Affari Internazionali on 8 March 2022. The rich panel of speakers also included Amb. Ferdinando Nelli Feroci, President of IAI, Amb. Maurizio Melani, former Ambassador of Italy to Baghdad, Dr. Maria Luisa Fantappiè, Special Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa Region of the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue, Dr. Andrea Dessì, Research Manager in the Mediterranean, Middle East and Africa Program by IAI.
In addition to the main regional issues Ambassador Greganti outlined in his speech the current political situation in Iraq, as it stemmed from the elections held last October; the security issues raised by the persistent presence of Daesh in the country; the historical bilateral relations between Italy and Iraq from a political, cultural, economic, cooperation and defense point of view, particularly in the light of the upcoming take-over by Italy of the NATO Mission’s Command.
