The Chief of Defence, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, paid a visit to Iraq on July 27 and 28. Accompanied by Ambassador Maurizio Greganti, Adm. Cavo Dragone met in Baghdad the Minister of Defense, Jumaa Enad, and the major Iraqi authorities in the field of security and defense (his counterpart Gen. Abdulamir Rashid Yarallah; the National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji; the Deputy Commander of the Joint Operations Command Iraq, Gen. Abdulamir al-Shimmary) to reaffirm the Italian commitment in favor of the stability and security of Iraq, both bilaterally and within the NATO Mission in Iraq (NMI), under the Command of Gen. Giovanni Maria Iannucci. In addition to the institutional meetings, the visit of the Chief of Defence provided an important opportunity to meet with the civilian and military personnel of the Italian Embassy in Baghdad as well as with Italian troops involved in the NMI and in the Operation Inherent Resolve (OIR) of the Global Coalition in the Iraqi capital and in Erbil, KRI.
