ArTourBagh – Archaeological heritage and sustainable cultural tourism in Baghdad officially kicks off today. The three-year project of the University of Bologna with AICS, University of Catania, CRAST and AVSI, was presented at the Italian Embassy, in the presence of several representatives from the SBAH (State Board of Antiquities and Heritage), local community leaders, Italian and Iraqi archaeologists and heritage experts.

The aim of the initiative is to protect and enhance the rich artistic, historical and archaeological heritage of Baghdad and Iraq through the development of a sustainable cultural tourism itinerary of ancient Mesopotamia, thus contributing to the economic and social revival of the territories involved.

A further step has been taken to strengthen cooperation between our two countries, thanks to the deployment of Italian expertise in the preservation and promotion of cultural heritage, which aims at involve local communities as well as professionals from the sector.
