On the second of June the Embassy of Italy in Baghdad celebrated the seventieth anniversary of the Italian Republic with the usual party at the Embassy, attended joint by many important personalities from the diplomatic delegations located in Baghdad, from the Iraqi Government and from the headquarters of the military troops present here. In this context, the Italian Ambassador in Baghdad Marco Carnelos had the opportunity to celebrate the successful path towards democracy that Italy has engaged after the Second World War. During this process, reconstruction and national reconciliation have played such a fundamental role that, as stated by the Italian Ambassador, they could be taken as consistent examples by the Iraqi Government that is currently facing considerable challenges linked to the reconstruction of the territories freed from the self-proclaimed Islamic State.
During his speech, Ambassador Carnelos underlined how national reconciliation is essential for Iraq to pave the right way out the political and social crisis that the country is suffering. In this sense, Italy has emerged as one of the top contributors in all the activities related to the stabilization of Iraq. The presence of the Iraqi Minister of Culture Fryad Rwandouzi gave a special touch to the party, when it has also been possible to admire some paintings of young Iraqi artists. The art exhibition had the purpose of highlighting the importance of culture as a tool able to oppose the obscurantism and terror perpetrated by Da’esh. It has been a really appreciated convivial party where all the guests expressed their esteem for Italy and its active efforts in Iraq.
