Meeting with Iraqi Foreign Ministry Senior Undersecretary, Nizar Al-Khairallah

Ambassador Maurizio Greganti had a cordial conversation with the Iraqi Foreign Ministry Senior Undersecretary, Nizar Al-Khairallah, on the excellent state of bilateral relations between Italy and Iraq and the numerous prospects for deepening the historical friendship that binds the two Countries.

Ambassador Greganti retraced the multiple sectors and collaboration initiatives between Rome and Baghdad, underlining the opportunity to expand cooperation in every field: economic, cultural, and the promotion of the Italian language. The Ambassador renewed his hope for a timely convocation of the next session of the bilateral Joint Commission in Baghdad. The Senior Undersecretary confirmed his willingness to proceed.

An in-depth analysis followed, focused on the migration issue and the management of migration flows: Ambassador Greganti was thus able to reiterate the Italian appreciation for the constructive approach that the Iraqi authorities have always maintained.

The meeting offered the opportunity for an exchange of views on the current political situation in Iraq and, finally, on regional relations, starting with the follow-up to the Baghdad Conference hosted at the end of last August in the Iraqi capital.
