CONCLUSION OF THE IX WEEK OF ITALIAN CUISINE IN THE WORLD (SCIM)

1

28 November saw the conclusion in Baghdad of the Week of Italian Cuisine organized by the Embassy, in collaboration with ICE and thanks to the support of Italian and Iraqi sponsors.

The large public attendance in all the scheduled events and their media resonance reflect the success of the initiative, ensured by the involvement of five chefs from the SEML Association who gave a masterclass on SCIM 2024 topic ‘Mediterranean Diet and Culinary Roots: Health and Tradition’, taught three cookery classes, animated two workshops for children and two open social events.

Many students and teachers from the Baghdad Institute for Tourism and Hotel Management, along with some professionals in the sector, took part in the cooking, baking and pizza-making lessons hosted in the kitchens of the Al Rasheed Hotel and of the Embassy.

Equally numerous were the children who enthusiastically participated in the educational workshops promoted by the chefs, showing the positive outcomes of a shared cooking experience on psychosocial and physical health.

In the evocative setting of the Al Rasheed Hotel, Italian and Iraqi chefs worked side by side to create an exclusive Made in Italy menu served during the Gala Dinner event. Among the distinguished guests were the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Ahmed Fakak Al Badrani and the Head of the Foreign Relations Parliamentary Committee Delan Ghafoor.

Several members of the international community, a number of Iraqi economic and cultural actors, together with qualified representatives of the Italian community attended the closing party hosted at the Embassy. Pizza, Italian street foods, desserts, and wines, were offered to the over 250 guests.
