The final session of the tailoring workshop “Travelling in the Fashion World 2,” led by fashion designer Samanthakhan Thisler—entrepreneur and lecturer at the Fashion Academy (IUAD)—concluded on February 20th as part of celebrations for Italian Design Day worldwide. In honor of the IDD 2025 theme, Inequalities: Design for a Better Life, the Italian Embassy in Baghdad, in collaboration with ICE Agency – Amman and Makers of Baghdad, organized a four-day workshop focusing on fashion as a driver of accessibility, sustainability, cultural dialogue, and inclusive economic growth, particularly for young designers.

Following the success of its 2023 edition, this year’s event allowed nearly 35 students and faculty from the Institute of Applied Arts in Baghdad, alongside industry experts, to create new designs inspired by the iconic styles of Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid. Starting February 17th, participants worked under Prof. Thisler to craft upcycled garments, blending craftsmanship, entrepreneurship, and creativity. Collaborative group projects highlighted both Italian excellence (Made in Italy) and Iraqi traditions.

After days of design and production, the final session culminated in a lively presentation of projects attended by creators, the institute’s deputy head, and faculty team. Certificates were awarded, marking the close of a workshop that reaffirmed fashion’s role in fostering inclusivity, cultural integration, and lasting institutional collaboration.
