From 17 to 20 February, as part of the Italian Design Day in the World (IDD), will take place in Baghdad the second edition of the fashion and tailoring course ‘Travelling in the Fashion World’. The workshop, organized by the Embassy in collaboration with ICE-Italian Trade Agency and Makers of Baghdad, is held by Samanthakhan Thisler, professor at IUAD – Institute of Universal Art and Design, entrepreneur and fashion designer, who is also the co-founder of a therapeutic tailoring atelier for women victims of violence (Molce Atelier).

Students and teachers of the Institute of Applied Arts, together with young tailors and designers from Baghdad, will learn techniques and technologies of contemporary Italian fashion design. By the end of the course, they will have created a unique garment by upcycling old clothes and fabrics.

In line with the IDD2025 theme ‘Inequalities. Design for a better life‘, the course aims to explore the role of fashion and design as a tool to build a new community model that is cosmopolitan, inclusive and sustainable. From craftsmanship to digital innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, Made in Italy is thus enhanced by the encounter with Iraqi tradition: an intercultural dialogue that overcomes inequalities.
