Joint Statement on the Climate Action Summit

Today the UK, UN and France will co-host the Climate Ambition Summit, in partnership with Italy and Chile, on the fifth anniversary of the landmark Paris Agreement. Climate change is one of the most urgent issues of our time. Today’s summit is an opportunity for countries to commit to a greener, more resilient and sustainable path – and put the world on track to deliver global net-zero emissions and limit global temperature rise to 1.5C.

The UK, UN, France and Italy are delighted that President of the Republic of Iraq Barham Salih was chosen to speak at the Summit. We welcome the recent ratification by Iraq of the Paris Agreement and its commitment to bold new action to reduce emissions including through a transition to renewable energy, improving energy Efficiency and encouraging more sustainable forms of transport.
