On the occasion of the Italian Design Day 2022 – “Re-Generation. Design and new technologies for a sustainable future”, read the message by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Luigi Di Maio:
“Italy is design. A historical heritage with an eye to the future that we celebrate today, everywhere in the world, with the Italian Design Day, the annual event launched in 2017 to promote the excellences of our country abroad.
An initiative promoted and organized – as part of the beIT and Vivere all’Italiana initiatives – by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Association for Industrial Design and with the precious support of the ITA, Triennale di Milano, Salone del Mobile Milano, Federlegno Arredo and Altagamma.
The theme of the 2022 edition is Re-Generation. Design and new technologies for a sustainable future.
The most iconic works of Italian design have the great advantage of always being up-to-date, over the years and sometimes over the decades.
This happens when innovative ideas, the transformation of materials and working methods in respect of tradition, a renewed vision of the world are added to aesthetic research.
Design and its interpreters are increasingly called upon to develop lifestyles that combine functionality, well-being and environmental sustainability.
At the center of this year’s Italian Design Day we have therefore placed the issues of urban regeneration, reuse and recycling of materials, in full coherence and synergy with Rome’s candidacy to host the Universal Exposition of 2030 and with its leading theme, based on the opportunities for regeneration of territories in the light of green and digital transitions. Conceiving new products and processes based on sustainable technologies, on the concept of circular economy, is today a priority need, strongly felt by the communities in which we live and in which our children will grow up.
To achieve such ambitious goals, constant dialogue and international collaboration between architects and designers are crucial on the one hand, while on the oher the support of the institutions to all the players and operators, from companies to research and development centers, are equally pivotal.
The numerous initiatives organized for the Italian Design Day by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and its diplomatic-consular network, the Italian Cultural Institutes and the ITA Offices in over 100 countries, will involve more than 115 designers, architects, researchers, entrepreneurs and journalists of the highest profile, and they will also pursue, among their objectives, the promotion of the sixtieth edition of the Salone del Mobile in Milan.
With the sixth edition of one of the most successful initiatives of the Farnesina we want to help promote every opportunity to access and consolidate our presence and performance on international markets, also and above all in the current international situation.
The unjustified and unjustifiable Russian aggression against Ukraine, which Italy strongly condemns, has brought the drama of war back to the European continent, along with the worst humanitarian crisis since the Second World War. Its economic repercussions are putting the post-pandemic recovery path at risk on a global scale. In this context, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation is carrying out relentless action in favor of the export and internationalization of Italian companies, with concrete initiatives in support of the production system.
For this constant commitment, I thank all the women and men of the Farnesina, effective interpreters of an economic diplomacy always at the service of business and innovation. “
